HEre are some of the projects in East Africa that CanAssist is working on - or plans to start soon. Your donation can help us complete this work.
CanAssist will construct a fish storage facility at the Kamin Oningo Beach in rural Kenya by Lake Victoria. This project will help the local fishermen to clean and store their fish catch until it can be picked up to take to the city market. Currently the fishing yield has gone down so vendors are not coming regularly to pick up catch from the beach unit. Much of the meagre fish catch gets wasted as it can not be stored for pick up. This project will help the local economy economically.
We continue to improve the Women's Vocational Centre (photo below) in Ngong Kenya with water, sanitation and an Enviorfit stove. Kenya Help (Nancy Stevens) helps us coordinate this project. In the past two years, Kenya Help supporters have been able to fund construction of the Vocational Training building, a security wall around the building, a pig pen for income generation and have donated funds to provide water, sanitation and a kitchen for the facility, these being under construction in 2017. We congratulate Nancy and her supporters for their accomplishments in providing this facility and improvements are ongoing.
CanAssist will fund construction of sports pads, eventually at three schools in Ramula District of Kenya. Nancy Grew is keen to develop a basketball program for both boys and girls in the district schools - giving them the opportunity for physical education training and all the secondary advantages of learning team sports (cooperation, strategy, teamwork, dealing with both winning and losing).
Mary Drinkwater is working with a group of Massai women in rural Rift Valley of Kenya to start a Maasai Girls Vocational and Leadership Training Centre near Magadi Kenya.
CanAssist will install rainwater collection at a rural Kenyan School - Ojawa School in Siaya District. We provided one rainwater tank for this school a couple of years ago but it is entirely inadequate for the 700 kids that go to that school. We hope this will improve availability of clean water for the school.
We will soon be completing the Administrative building, office and library at the SP Geddes School in Osiri Village, Kenya.
CanAssist also plans to install a boys toilet at the Nyalunya School in Siaya District, Kenya, establish washrooms at the Kaswanga School on Rusinga Island, repair the borehole (water well) at the Olimai Health Centre in Uganda and eventually provide a dining hall for the students at Ramula Secondary School. We continue to buy books, furnishings and supplies for several schools throughout the district.
