Desks to schools project
Rachyonyo District , Kenya
Kenya supposedly provides "free" education to elementary school age students. Many can still not afford school uniforms and books. Classrooms are often under poor repair and classes crowded.
Three schools in the Rachuonyo district of Kenya, near Homa Bay, are in generally poor condition. The 450 students attending two elementary schools may not have desks. Many sit on the floor.
Students at the local Public Kamser Secondary school also work in sub-standard conditions. Can you imagine trying to learn in surroundings like these?
Education is valued by Kenyan families and young people know that in the 21st century, they need education in order to be employable and succeed.

CanAssist/Aford Desks to schools project
In 2014, CanAssist will provide 150 bench desks to two elementary schools in Rachuonyo district and 20 lockable single desks to the Kamser Secondary School. The approximate cost of each desk, which will be locally made, thereby giving a carpenter some work, will be about $40.
Your donation to CanAssist can help with this project. If you prefer your gift to support the Desk to Schools project indicate this with your cheque to
